Opportunity Overview Johns Manville is currently looking to hire an Intellectual Property Scientist, located in Littleton, CO. The Intellectual Property Scientist's role includes timely monitoring and communicating of competitive intellectual property activity and to Work proactively and collaboratively with all business unit and functional team members to help strengthen and manage JM's Intellectual Property. The goal is to drive IP engagement across all levels of the company to maximize the value of JM's Intellectual property investment. The position will also actively engage in idea collection across the company. Applicants can expect to make between $81,000 to $122,000 upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for a target incentive bonus under our variable incentive plan. This position is eligible for a flexible work arrangement in which, by way of example, an employee's work week may include both some days at the employee's assigned company work location and some workdays performed remotely from the employee's home. The schedule of remote work will be based on business and work needs as determined by management. Your Day-to-Day:
Work proactively and collaboratively with business unit and functional unit team members to help create, strengthen and develop JM's intellectual property. Work with the businesses and functions to establish consistent operating rhythms with regard to intellectual property awareness and management. Proactively monitor and communicate competitive patent activity, providing updates of competitive issues, driving actions and recommendations. Assist JM development teams and individual inventors with the preparation of invention disclosures, performing prior art searching, and ultimately delivering detailed, quality IDs that lead to patent applications, or other forms of intellectual property protection. Perform prior art searches to assess patentability and clearance issues, internal and competitive patent landscape. Assist in the evaluation of concepts from external sources. Provide research and support to patent attorneys on patent prosecution matters, licensing and acquisitions. Identify active JM patents that are no longer important to the business and make recommendations concerning possible licensing, divesture or abandonment. Provide regular intellectual property updates to R&D and JM Businesses. Work across JM to develop and implement idea capture and management processes to collect as many valuable ideas as possible to drive success in all aspects of JM's businesses. What You Bring to The Team:
Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science, Engineering or other related technical degree with a minimum of 5 years of related work experience, 10 years preferred. Capable of conducting and analyzing literature & patent searches and preparing detailed invention disclosures Ability to teach, coach and mentor others in conducting effective competitive IP evaluations Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects at the same time. Experience of idea collection and management systems preferred Ability to make connections between apparently disparate pieces of information. Ability to work independently and in a team environment Ability to interface at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally Ability to envision and communicate how competitive IP activity, literature (news & technical) and new competitive products relate to JM today and in the future. Salary Range:
$80K -- $150K
